Overview

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) is committed to supporting students with disabilities by providing necessary facilities and assistance to enable equal access to campus resources and academic activities.

Currently, services for students with disabilities are provided by several departments within UTAR. This page consolidates the available information so that students can easily identify and access the support they require.

Campus Facilities and Mobility Support

Managed by: Department of Safety and Security (DSS)
 UTAR provides various facilities to support students with physical disabilities and mobility needs.


Wheelchair Services

Wheelchairs are available at the following locations: 

  • Department of Safety & Security, Room C102, Student Pavilion I (Block C)
  • UTAR Library (Block G)
  • Faculty of Information & Communication Technology (Block N), Room NF-022

Special Parking Pass


Parking passes will be issued to persons with disabilities once they are registered with the Department of Safety and Security.

Reserved Parking Lots


Sufficient parking spaces are reserved for persons with disabilities in UTAR parking zones.

Accessible Campus Infrastructure

Designated lifts for persons with disabilities are available in most buildings.

Ramp facilities are provided within campus buildings for easier access.

A Sickbay is available at Student Pavilion I (Block C), Room C116

Library Support Services

Managed by: UTAR Library
The UTAR Library provides special assistance and facilities to support users with disabilities.

Assistance and Support

  • Library staff are available to provide personal assistance when required.
  • Students who need help to access library collections or services may contact the librarian in advance for necessary arrangements
Accessibility Features
  • Wheelchair-accessible routes are available to enter the library
  • Lifts with Braille buttons are provided
  • Toilets designed for users with physical disabilities are available
  • Special parking lots for disabled users are available near the library buildings
Students requiring special assistance are encouraged to approach library staff for support at any time.

Support During Examinations

Managed by: Division of Examination and Awards (DEAS)
UTAR has procedures in place to handle special situations involving students with disabilities during examinations.

Emergency and Special Arrangements

If unforeseen circumstances occur during an examination, such as:
  • Emergency medical conditions
  • Situations requiring immediate medical attention or counseling
  • Other special circumstances affecting a student’s ability to continue the examination
The following process will be followed:
  • The Chief Invigilator will immediately inform the Division of Examination and Awards (DEAS) officer on duty and the Examination Coordinator.
  • DEAS and the Examination Coordinator will propose appropriate solutions. 
  • The relevant authority will decide on the most suitable arrangement to address the situation.

How Students Can Seek Assistance

Students with disabilities who require support are encouraged to:

  1. Contact the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) for advice and guidance.
  2. Register with the Department of Safety and Security if special parking or mobility assistance is needed.
  3. Inform the Library in advance if special help is required to access library resources.
  4. Notify the relevant authorities early if special arrangements are needed during examinations.
