Sportsperson of the Year Award / Most Talented UTARians


This award recognizes the achievement of UTAR students in non-academic fields primarily in sports activities and artistic/creative talent to serve as a role model for the community with strong academic achievement.

 

The onus will be on the candidate to write in and avail themselves to be considered for the award which covers the following categories


 1.      Official Participation (representing UTAR while participating in official/external events / tournaments / competitions)*

 2.      Independent Participation (participating in external events / tournaments / competitions on own accord)*

 3.      Achievements (arising from participation, i.e. Champion / Award Winner, Special Awards)*

 * All participation in external events must be in line with the University's rules and regulations.

The winner of this award will receive a cash prize and trophy.

 

SUBMISSION PARTICULARS


1. All information provided in this section (and any subsequent declarations below) are to be verified by DSA to be accurate and true. 

2. The applicant must not have been found guilty in any disciplinary meetings, nor found guilty of any misdeeds (or serving any ongoing punishment) outside of the university throughout the assessment period. 

3. DSA reserves the capacity to forfeit the whole application if any declared item is found to be inaccurate, modified or outright invalid. 

4. Overall Points Breakdown (100%): a. Section A: Academic Achievement – 5% b. Section B: Co-Curricular Achievement – 5% c. Section C: Sports/Talent Achievement – 80% d. Section D: Community Participation – 10%

Section A: Academic Achievement (5%)

 

1.      All applicants must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0000 at the point of assessment/evaluation. A maximum of 5 points (rounded to 2 decimal points) can be awarded for this section via the formula:

Section B: Co-Curricular Achievement (5%)

 

1. Applicants will be graded based on the USSDC soft skills programme at the point of assessment/evaluation for a maximum of 5 points (rounded to 2 decimal points) for this section

Section C: Sports/Talent Achievements (80%)

 

1.      Applicants may submit up to eight (8) of their most significant participations / achievements throughout the past assessment year (1 April – 31 March). A maximum of 80 points may be awarded (excess points will be ignored) for this section.  

2.      Each official / external event is eligible to obtain one Participation and one Achievement score (if the Participation wins an achievement). Multiple Achievements at a single event shall be considered independent of each other, but only one Participation score will be issued and counts as an additional item/achievement.

3.      DSA shall vet and allocate points for each validated participation / achievement, and in the event of a tie, the SAC shall determine the award winner.

4.      All applicants will need to determine their primary category of submission under Sportsperson of the Year OR Most Talented UTARian (Creative). Note that E-Sports involvements are categorized as part of Sportsperson of the Year.

Classification of Levels:

·         Local – Participation at official UTAR events, or local events within the direct community (i.e. Clash of UTarians, Cheras Open, USTAR Singing Competition).

·         State - Representing UTAR at inter-varsities/college (single state or institution) events, state-wide competitions (i.e. Selangor Badminton Open, Monash Dance Competition).

·         National - Representing UTAR in inter-state (multiple states and institutions) level competitions (e.g. MASISWA, SUKMA, or Malaysian Idol).

·         International – e.g. Representing UTAR at an International Competition involving multiple countries (i.e. ASEAN Games, World Wushu Championships, or World Hip Hop Dance Championship).

Notes: All Special Awards (i.e. Best Costume, Most Supportive) are considered as Consolation level achievements by default, but may be subject to difficulty of achievement (i.e. Sportsperson of the Year for ASEAN Games, or the Golden Boot would be considered as a 1st Place achievement due to difficulty of receiving the award). The achievement tier/score awarded will be subject to the panel’s sole discretion.

Section D: Community Contributions (10%)

 

1.      Applicants are expected to have contributed to the community around them in various ways and shall be awarded for up to five (5) most significant contributions (not already tabulated from previous sections) towards the community (within UTAR or external) for up to a maximum of 10 points.

 

2.      Applicants are awarded points additively for each role as follows:

4.      Each contribution is tallied by multiplying the Base Point and Multiplier to obtain its nett point value (up to maximum of 10 points – excess points will be ignored). DSA shall determine the validity of each Position and Scope for tabulation purposes.
